Points In Time Saga #4: Realm Of Universes

Realm Of Universes
Rain fell down my face. It had been so long since I experienced that feeling.
It's one of those things we take for granted until we've lost it.
Thunder roared in the far distance. The only thing missing was wind; then it would have been perfect.
"The universe is crying" said They in a rather solemn tone.
Crying? Why would the universe do something like that?
How could it even do such a thing in the first place?
"I don't understand" I said while feeling the water drops run down my face.
"The star you saw and traveled through. It was sacrificed in order to power the machine during this process. Every time it's activated, we must sacrifice a star to obtain the required energy input. Traveling across time and space is a very expensive endeavor. The universe mourns for every star that is loses" was They's reply.
"How can the universe cry? So this is actual water? How can it know that a star has died? Since when does the universe has feelings to begin with?" I fired back full of curiosity.
"The stars are part of the children of the universe. As a parent, wouldn't you mourn the loss of your progeny?" They replied but they sounded confused; it seemed it was a very clear point to them and my lack of understanding was befuddling them.
"I can't accept the idea of the universe having feelings at all. That's not what my experience has taught me" I responded with a mixture of resentment, frustration and bitterness.
After all, what does the universe even know about losing a child?...
After all, what does the universe even know about losing a child?...
They didn't like this considering the tone of their response...
"If it's more palatable to you, the combination of the star's hydrogen with the oxygen released during the explosion creates water as a byproduct. We interpret it as sorrow but you may interpret it as rain if you like"
They sounded odd... almost emotional.
"But how can the universe know that we've killed a star? Why would it care if you did? Isn't it infinite? How can it even notice a star is missing? How can a simple star..."
"You ask too many questions. Questions not related to the moment are a waste of time" They shouted while cutting me off.
For some reason, it seemed like I managed to annoy them.
Another thunder in the distance. I remained silent for a while. They were right. I should just live the moment.
If the universe was crying, the least I could do was to mourn alongside it. Whether I believed it was doing so at all or not was irrelevant.
Why would the universe care about my opinion at all if I can't accept it mourns?
I know I should have felt sad but I just couldn't stop enjoying the rain that fell on me.
"Where are we?" I asked after pondering what would be the proper question for the moment.
"In the Realm of Universes" said They, back to their monotone voices.
I sighed deeply and tried to open my eyes to see what They meant.
I couldn't.
My eyes were shut. I panicked and rushed my fingers towards my eyelids; it felt like if they were sewed in.
They weren't.
In frustration, I sighed again and asked: "Why are we here then?"
"It is time to choose the path to follow" was the answer.
How can I choose what I can't see? was my frustrated reply.
"it's not a matter of choosing among the options in front of you but rather the one that will lead to the result you want" was their response.
"Doesn't that mean that my choice is already made?" I asked with a mixture of incredulity and cynicism.
"In a way, yes but you also must be certain that your choice is the one you actually want to make. Once it is made, you can't turn back" They told me in a calm manner.
"This is why we are here. The Realm of Universes is the gateway to the whole universe. Now choose" They insisted.
Another thunder roared in the distance.

To be continued...
